The Mid-Week Wash: Treating the Stains of the Soul

The Mid-Week Wash: Treating the Stains of the Soul
Moms, can we just be real for a second? It’s mid-week. We are tired.
The house needs attention, many of us are balancing jobs outside the home, and tonight is mid-week church—which is a blessing—but let’s face it, it’s also one more thing to manage. Between the cooking, the homework, and the sheer mental load of "keeping it all going," we are drained.
As I was looking at the chores piling up this morning, my mind went straight to the one thing that never seems to end: The Laundry.
The Necessary Labor
Laundry is a "mom thing." If we didn’t do it, would it ever actually get done? Probably not. It would pile up to the ceiling. We spend so much time and money on our family's clothes because we want them to last. We wouldn’t dream of letting our kids walk out the door for school or church with stains all over them. If we see a spot, we stop what we’re doing to treat it immediately because we don’t want that garment to be ruined.
But here is the question that hit my heart today: Do we put that same effort into our own spiritual lives?
Treating the Spiritual Stains
We are so diligent about "treating the stains" on a shirt, but do we take the time to treat the stains on our hearts?
During a busy week, things build up—frustration, impatience, worry, or even small sins we’ve ignored because we’re "too busy." We get so wrapped up in our roles as managers, accountants, and laundresses that we forget our most important role: being a daughter of the King.
We might whisper a quick prayer or glance at a verse, but do we ever deeply devote time to washing those sins away? Do we spend that concentrated time with God, meditating on His Word and letting Him scrub our hearts clean?
What about "The Aroma of Grace?"
This morning, while driving Zeb to school, I caught the scent of the laundry booster I’d used on his clothes. It smelled so fresh and clean. It made me wonder if he carries that scent with him all day, a little reminder of home.
As Christians, we are called to carry a "scent" too. When we take the time to let Jesus wash us and fill us, we start to carry the fruits of the Spirit—love, gentleness, kindness, and compassion. But when we’re drained and "unwashed" spiritually, we don’t have any of that left to give.
The beauty of it is that we can worship Him anywhere—at the desk, in the car, or even while standing over the washing machine. But we must take that focused time to let His presence resonate within us.
Where is your laundry load today?
So, where are you this Wednesday? How does your spiritual laundry load look? Is it piling up? Are there stains you’ve been ignoring because you’re too busy managing everyone else’s lives?
Today, I challenge you to take a moment—even if it’s just ten minutes among the piles of clothes—to sit at His feet. Let Him do the heavy lifting for a while.

A Verse for Your Heart
"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." — Psalm 51:7
My Prayer for You:
Lord, thank You for the moms who keep their homes running. Today, remind us that while clean clothes are important, a clean heart is vital. Help us to treat our spiritual stains with the same urgency we treat our laundry. Refresh us with Your scent today so that we can lead our families with Your love. Amen.
